Thomas Micolino is the owner of the Eiscafé Rino, an ice cream shop in Rottenburg, in the south of Germany. He decided to make new flavors for his customers. On February 25th, he announced a novelty for the store on his Instagram profile: cricket-flavored ice cream.
The invention only became possible because the European Union (EU) started permitting the production of food made with cricket flour starting January 23rd, 2023. For the ice cream he created, Micolino uses cricket flour, vanilla, and dried cricket icing. Thomas has also created other unusual ice cream flavors, including liver sausage and 24 carat gold.
