The draw to decide which teams will face each other in the group stage of the 2023 Women’s World Cup was held on October 21st in Auckland, New Zealand. It will host the event together with Australia. In this stage, the fi rst of the competition, the 32 competing teams will face each other in eight groups with four teams each. The two teams from each group that obtain the best results will move to the next phase.

Brazil has been drawn in group F, along with France, Jamaica, and another team yet to be defined. Taiwan, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay and Panama are still in the playoffs (a competition between teams that still need to qualify). The last team in the group will be known between February 17th and 23rd.

As a result of the draw, the Brazilian team’s second game in the fi rst phase of the World Cup will be against France, on July 29th, 2023. In the last Cup, the French team eliminated Brazil from the competition by 2×1 on June 23rd, 2019 in the round of 16. Neither team has won the Women’s World Cup. In 2023, the tournament will take place between July 20th and August 20th.

Women’s World Cup

In 1988, because of the sport’s growth, the International Football Federation (FIFA) organized the Invitation Tournament, an international women’s football tournament in China. The competition was a success, which led FIFA to hold the fi rst o_ cial edition of the Women’s World Cup in 1991. This will be its eighth edition. It takes place every four years like the men’s competition.
