The deepest swimming pool in the world was inaugurated on July 7th in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. Named Deep Dive Dubai (Dive Dubai), it is 60.02 metres deep and holds 14.6 million litres of water (enough to fill six Olympic-sized swimming pools). The novelty has already been certified by Guinness, the book of world records.

The attraction has been made to resemble a lost city at the bottom of the sea. The public will be able to explore abandoned buildings, play “underwater pool” and even find secrets that have been scattered throughout the place. Film studios that want to take advantage of the setting to film underwater scenes will also be allowed to do so.

To ensure the safety of divers, a hyperbaric chamber (equipment that delivers oxygen) for up to 12 people was installed in the centre of Deep Dive Dubai. If there is a problem with the diving equipment or if someone feels unwell, it is possible to go into the chamber and wait for help there, without risking a quick ascent to the surface.

For now, the attraction is only open to guests. The venue’s management announced that, in 2021, the public would be able to dive there by buying tickets for one-hour sessions. Tickets will cost between 500 and 1,500 dirhams (around 693 and 2.7 thousand reais), which is the local currency.

Deep Dive has created an inconvenience for another tourist attraction in Dubai, the Burj Khalifa, which is the tallest building in the world at over 829 metres tall. That is because it could be harmful to your health to go up so high after diving so deep. Thus, visitors are advised to not visit the building for at least 18 hours after leaving the pool.
