Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, a 16-year-old Indian teenager, defeated the five-time world chess champion and current number one player in the world, 31-year-old Norwegian Magnus Carlsen. The match took place on February 21st in an online tournament, the Airthings Masters.

Carlsen dominated the game most of the time. However, in the 32nd round, the athlete made a careless move with the knight (one of the pieces of the game), which favored the opponent, and helped him win the game ten minutes later.

Even though he was defeated, the Norwegian remains in first place in the world rankings – the tournament does not change the fact that Carlsen won the last Chess World Cup, held in 2021. The victory of Praggnanandhaa, or Pragg which is his nickname, has had repercussions in India and the rest of the world.
