On July 16th, King Charles III of the United Kingdom visited Guernsey — one of the islands in the English Channel. During the visit, the monarch granted a royal title to a species of golden goat typical of the island. Now, these animals have the honor of being the Royal Golden Guernsey Goat, and the title applies to goats of this species all over the world. The species is considered rare and at risk of extinction. For this reason, the King’s decision was viewed as a symbolic act for the preservation of the animal. The King even petted one of the goats.

On June 22nd, a contest in the Sonoma-Marin Fair, held in California, chose the ugliest dog in the world in its 2024 edition. Wild Thang is an eight-year-old Pekingese. It has a tongue that hangs out of his mouth because of an illness it had when it was a puppy. It also has a lot of thick hair around his head. This the fifth time Wild Thang participated in the contest. The competition, called The World’s Ugliest Dog, promotes the adoption of animals and the acceptance of differences in dogs.

On July 12th, the United States space agency (NASA) broadcast the song “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” by American rapper Missy Elliot on Venus. The track traveled 254 million kilometers between Earth and Venus at the speed of light (which travels approximately 300 thousand kilometers per second). The song was the first hip-hop song to be sent out into space by NASA’s large radio antenna system — and the second to travel through the cosmos. The first song, “Across the Universe” by the Beatles, was broadcast in 2008. The track was not literally played on Venus. For this to happen, someone would have to be there tuning into the radio.
