Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Nobel Prize ceremony will be held virtually this year. According to a September 22^nd statement, the event will be held at the Stockholm City Council in Sweden on December 10th, with few attendees to avoid crowds. The ceremony will be broadcasted on television and online.

The nominees will participate virtually and will receive the medals and diplomas in their own countries. Before the pandemic, the ceremony brought together nominees, guests, journalists, among others. “This is a very special year when everyone must make sacrifices (…),” but the laureates would be highlighted in different ways, said the director of the Nobel Foundation, Lars Heikenstein.

Nobel Peace Prize

This prize is not awarded on the same location as the other categories. This year, it will take place at Aula University in Oslo, Norway, on December 10th, with television and online transmission.

What is the Nobel Prize?

It is a prize that recognizes people who have developed great works for humanity in a variety of fields, including medicine, physics, and literature. This year, the laureates will be announced between October 5th and 12th.

Other events held virtually in 2020

General Assembly of the United Nations (UN): takes place every year at the UN headquarters in New York City, in the United States. Leaders (presidents and prime ministers, for example) from around the world attend the meeting to discuss issues that affect their countries and the world. For the 2020 edition, held between September 22^nd and October 2nd, representatives sent in videos with their speeches.

Emmy Awards: this prize awards television shows, such as series, and is always attended by many stars. On September 20th, however, very few took part in the ceremony in Los Angeles, in the USA. The nominees participated virtually.
