The residential complex called Burj Al Babas in the city of Mudurnum, located in a mountainous region in the north of Turkey, is reminiscent of landscapes in Disney movies and amusement parks.

All 732 residences look just like those in fairy tales, with towers and terraces that resemble each other. The site also has a shopping mall and health centres. The houses started being built in 2014 to lure potential buyers who would want to live in mini castles and were willing to pay between 400 and 500 thousand dollars (close to 1.8 million reais).

However, nothing turned out as Sarot, the group responsible for the project, expected. An economic crisis in Turkey turned the real estate development into a ghost town, without residents or even paved roads.

At the end of 2018, however, the president of the building company said that the venture would resume. “I believe that we can get over this crisis in four or five months and partially inaugurate the project in 2019,” said Mehmet Emin Yerdelen to Bloomberg’s website.

The company needs to sell 100 houses, or it will go bankrupt making this the last opportunity for someone who has dreamed of living like a Disney character to do so.
