Ethan Sonneborn is 13 and wants to govern the state of Vermont in the United States. Since no state law can stop him from doing so, he is officially a gubernatorial candidate, the youngest ever in the state’s history. The boy is running for the Democratic Party and will face two other candidates.

The main issue in Ethan’s campaign is for the United States to have stricter gun control. “I respect the area’s hunting culture, but if it’s making the decision between letting my friends have a good time at a firing range and them possibly being involved in a school shooting, I’m choosing legislation to protect them from that school shooting”, he explained in an interview to the American TV channel CNN.

The youth’s dream of participating in politics and promoting change came about after he bought an encyclopedia that had Robert F. Kennedy on the cover. Ethan was only five when he began to admire the former politician for his ability to bring people together for the sake of the common good.

“You don’t have to be a Kennedy or a famous minister to be a coalition builder, you have to have an issue you care about and be willing to speak out,” he says. Being in the classroom, however, is a challenge for Ethan due to the difficulties he has attending school while campaigning all over the state.
