Velma, a character from the Scooby-Doo cartoon, will have her own series on the HBO Max streaming service. American comedian Mindy Kaling will be the voice actress for the character in the original version (in English) of the first season. The first season will feature ten episodes.

The story will focus on Velma’s life before she meets the Scooby-Doo gang. That is, before forming Mystery Inc. and traveling with friends to uncover supernatural mysteries.

In the original animation series, Velma leads several investigations. Over the years, the character became increasingly popular among fans. This also made her stand out in the movie Daphne & Velma, which was released in 2018. The movie is about an adventure with the two girls from the Scooby-Doo team.

The series has no release date yet. HBO Max is expected to be launched in Brazil in June of this year.

Scooby Doo

The animation released in September 1969 is about Scooby (the dog), his friends, and their action and comedy filled adventures. Most of the time, the gang discovers that the ghosts and monsters they encounter are just ordinary people who use costumes to scare people. The name of the series originated when its creator, Fred Silverman, listened to the song Strangers in the Night by Frank Sinatra. Fred thought it was funny that the singer ended the song by humming “doo-be doo-be dooo”.
