In Japan, the former radio presenter Keiko Kawano developed a different kind of project: a Egaoiku (smile education) school that teaches people how to smile. According to the founder, the school has existed since 2017, but became more popular after the Covid-19 pandemic.
On July 22nd, the school’s official Instagram account posted a photo with the message “to be a smiley face” during one of the classes. Egaoiku students include young people who stopped knowing how to smile after the constant use of masks during the pandemic, and companies trying to improve their employees’ social skills.
A one-hour lesson for one person costs about 55 USD (approximately 272 reais). Lessons include muscle exercises to relax facial expressions and smile more naturally.
