In early August, the Dia de Doar Kids and JOCA together with other partner organizations, asked the following question to children and young people: “What are the three things I would like to improve in the world?” The results of the online survey were released at the end of October, with responses from 450 participants from all over Brazil (and even some from abroad) between ages 5 and 18.

The topic that was most mentioned in the responses was ending violence (such as robberies, fights, and crimes), with 7.3% of the responses. Next were more healthcare coverage for all or improving healthcare (6.8%) and improving education and the right to study (also with 6.8%).

Covid-19 was not left out: on average for all three questions, 5.8% of young people said that in order for the world to be better, they would like the new coronavirus to go away. When only the first response of the participants (that is, the first thing they would want to improve the world) was considered, the issue was even more prevalent: it came out on top with 10.3%. Education and the right to study (8.7%) followed.

Based on the results of the survey, the Dia de Doar Kids team is developing material for educators, as well as activities for children and young people, and surveys that will be disseminated to society at large. Check out the complete survey on the website: bit.ly/resultado-tres-coisas-mundo

Dia de Doar (Giving Tuesday): started in the United States in 2012 and is celebrated in over 50 countries. The date changes every year, following Thanksgiving, Black Friday (the Friday after Thanksgiving Day), and Cyber Monday (the Monday with online discounts). That is why the day’s original name was Giving Tuesday, that is, the Tuesday in which donations take place. In 2020, it will be on December 1st.
