A new type of onion will be arriving at São Paulo supermarkets in the next few days: the onion that does not make you cry! Researchers at the German multinational company Bayer worked on this for more than 20 years. They can reduce the amount of gas (sulphur) that comes out when the onion is sliced. The gas causes irritation and tears when it comes into contact with the eyes. The new onion is called “dulciana”. It will be more expensive than the other onions.
