Disney+ streaming service will debut the first Brazilian production in its platform. Director Nelson Botter Jr.’s O Pergaminho Vermelho (The Red Scroll) will be available on August 6th. It features a character that will be voiced by Now United’s Anny Gabrielly in Portuguese.

The animated film tells the story of Nina, a 13-year-old girl who likes to use her imagination to analyse her friends’ nightmares in a fun way. After she finds a red scroll, she is taken to Tellurian, where she has to face the Dark Lord, the wizard responsible for creating bad dreams.

Filled with fantastical creatures, mythology, and conflicts, The Red Scroll took ten years to complete. This was because both the animation and the script are very complex with several versions being written by four different people.

Fans of pop music group Now United have been anxiously waiting for the animation’s debut, because singer Anny Gabrielly does the voice for Idril, who is one of Tellurian’s residents, in Portuguese. The character is also the one who guides Nina through the magical world.

Even though it is in the Disney+ platform, The Red Scroll is not a Disney production. Disney has the distribution rights. The animation is a work by Vitrine Filmes, a Brazilian studio. It was already exhibited in 2020 at the 44th São Paulo International Film Festival. The film is one of the nominees for Ibero-Americano Cinema’s Platinum Prize.
