On April 19 th, the Conspiração Filmes production company announced that it is making a film about Marta, the greatest female soccer player in Brazilian history. The biopic will show how the athlete became interested in the sport and her start in football. It is based on memories of her childhood and adolescence.

Marta herself is involved in the project and is helping to develop it. The story will be based on the many hours of interviews that the screenwriter, Helen Beltrame-Linné, has already conducted with the player. The fi lm is directed by Andrucha Waddington and produced by Ramona Bakker. “We’re going to tell a piece of Marta’s story that no one knows. We went back in time with her to Dois Riachos [the town in Alagoas where Marta was born] in a very deep way. After hearing it, we got to know every inch of a place we have not even been to physically. And one of the things that impressed me the most was her outlook on life. She is very focused, and at the same time, sweet and light”, said Ramona Bakker in an interview with Folha de S. Paulo newspaper.

Marta’s life

Marta was born in Dois Riachos, in the countryside of Alagoas state, on February 19th, 1986. In 2018, she was elected the best player in the world for the sixth time, an unprecedented feat in football. Marta plays for the Brazilian national team and for the Orlando Pride team, in the United States. She is a Goodwill Ambassador for UN (United Nations) Women.
