As they make plans to reopen, cinemas, museums, and theatres around the world are changing to prevent their patrons from getting Covid-19. Check out some of the innovations in Brazil and in other countries:

Less People

The Berliner Ensemble theatre in Berlin, Germany removed part of its seats to maintain social distancing in the audience. In total, 500 seats were removed from the main theatre, which had 700 places before.

Due to the pandemic, Berlin authorities banned all events with 50 people or more including theatre presentations in March. Now, the order is for theatres to reopen in September.

At the Berliner Ensemble, the first presentation after the pause will take place on September 4th.  There will be no intermission between acts (the parts of a show) to prevent too many people from going to the restroom at the same time, for example. Spectators will be permitted to do this during performances.

Drive-in

This is the name given to activities in which spectators watch shows or films, for example, from inside their cars. The practice was popular between the 50s and 70s and is gaining strength due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

For example, during the month of June, the cities of Porto Alegre and Pouso Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul will be exhibiting Brazilian and international films in drive-in cinemas. In Australia, fans of Casey Donovan, a singer, were able to watch her May 21st show in the city of Sydney from inside their cars. The stage was set on the street in front of the cars. Instead of clapping, fans honked their horns.

Cars and Art

The parking lot at the Cologne Bonn airport in Germany created a type of art drive-through. While in their cars, visitors circulate slowly through the space, admiring close to 300 works of art, including paintings and sculptures.

After being closed for over a month, some museums in Germany have started reopening in the beginning of May. In many of them, visitors have to wear masks and go online to schedule a time to visit.
