The Brazilian League of Legends Championship (CBLoL) announced on February 21st that it will change its rules for next year’s edition. In the new system, no team will be downgraded, that is, nobody will leave the league after losing a few times.  Even the teams that have the least points will continue playing, but in less important matches.

The teams that want to participate in the competition will have to become CBLoL members. The model – which has already been adopted by the League of Legends (LoL) in other countries – was inspired by tournaments in the United States, such as the NFL’s in American football and the NBA’s in basketball.

It is expected that with this change, all teams will be more appreciated, which could lead to more sponsorship (when a brand financially supports a team or athlete). On a social network, however, championship fans criticised the new measure because they believe that the change will decrease competitiveness, for example.

The 2020 edition of the CBLoL – which is still being held in the old format – started on January 25th and ends on May 2nd.

Electronic Sports
The CBLoL is part of the world of sports: electronic games competitions. In LoL, the goal of the players is to destroy constructions that are on the enemy ‘s territory.
