The K-pop group BTS has broken the YouTube world record of the music video with the most views on its first 24 hours. The release of the clip for Dynamite on August 21^st had 101.1 million views on that day. The previous record was also held by BTS. In April 2019, the clip for Boy With Luv was watched 74.6 million times on its first day.

Dynamite is the group’s first song sung entirely in English. “When we were recording, we felt that the English version fit the melody a little better,” explained V (the stage name for Kim Tae-hyung) during an online press conference held to broadcast the release. He also said that the recording was a challenge, since only RM (the stage name for Kim Nam-joon) is fluent in English in the group.

The song was scheduled to be released later this year, but the new coronavirus pandemic made the band move plans up to take advantage of this period without shows and to cheer up quarantined fans.

The documentary Break the Silence, which follows the band for a year, is another BTS novelty. It is scheduled to be released on September 10th. The BTS Universe Story app should also be available to the public in 2020.  With the app, fans will be able to create and follow stories based on the artists.

What is K-pop?

A style of music from South Korea that mixes pop, hip-hop, and electronic music. There is even a “K-pop department” in the South Korean government’s Ministry of Culture. BTS is one of the most famous bands of the genre, including in Brazil, where the band has already held two concerts.
