A boy plays with his superhero dolls. While traditional characters such as Batman and Spiderman are kept in a toy basket, the boy plays with a nurse doll dressed as a superhero. The painting, which was delivered to the University of Southampton Hospital, in England, on May 6th, is a homage from the British artist Banksy to health professionals working during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Thanks for all you’re doing. I hope this brightens up the place a bit, even if it’s only black and white,” the artist wrote on a note for the employees.

The artwork was hung in a changing room close to the emergency room and will remain there until October after which it will be auctioned to fundraise for the hospital. Paula Head, chief executive of the hospital, posted a photo of the painting on Twitter. “An inspirational backdrop to pause and reflect on these unprecedented times,” she wrote on the post.
