DELÍCIAS E GOSTOSURAS (Delicious and Tasty Treats, by Ana Maria Machado, Editora Salamandra) – By 3rd year C students from Professor Milton Rocha Public School, Assis (SP state)

We read the book Delícias e Gostosuras, from the Gato Escondido collection, written by Ana Maria Machado and illustrated by Denise Fraifeld. It is a book of poems that tells the story of two children, Henrique and Isadora. The story takes place in their grandmother’s house, and ever y thing happens on Isadora’s birthday.

As we read, we started to remember certain songs, fairy tales, and even cartoons that we did not know very well, such as Popeye and Winnie the Pooh.

Isadora shows up in several pages dressed as characters such as Popeye, Snow White, and the big bad wolf. Her dogappears dressed as a grandma. At the end of the birthday party, we were reminded of Hansel and Gretel’s story, especially because Isadora and Henrique are siblings like the two [characters] in the fairy tale.

We also remembered many nursery rhymes, such as Seu Nicolau Quer Mingau, Os Sete Anões, Pintinho Amarelinho, Ciranda Cirandinha, Machadinha, etc.

We really liked the book because, besides traveling through the stories and songs, we were also reminded of our grandparents and of birthday parties. We love having these memories from our childhood because they are delightful and delicious.
