On August 28th, the town of Buñol in eastern Spain hosted the traditional La Tomatina festival. The festival is known for hosting the world’s biggest tomato fight. During the festival, more than 22,000 participants throw tomatoes at each other, which results in streets full of tomato sauce.
And there is more: as a courtesy, a special lunch before the battle was also served to people who signed up. The tradition, according to historical accounts, dates to the 1940s and originated from a fight between two groups in the city streets.
