Kobe Bryant, the basketball player who died in January, will be honoured by having a street in the city of Los Angeles, in the United States, named after him. The announcement was made by Herb Wesson Jr., one of the city council members, on August 26th. The street is close to Staples Center, home to the Los Angeles Lakers, the team Bryant played in for ten years.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Wesson Jr. stated that the street that will pay homage to Kobe is the current Figueroa St. However, the representative did not give a date for when the street will take on the player’s name. “Kobe’s legacy is greater than basketball. #KobeBryantBlvd will be a reminder to everyone, young and old who drive down it, there is no obstacle too big and that with the #Mambamentality [the player was nicknamed Black Mamba, in reference to an African snake], anything is possible”, tweeted Wesson.

Kobe Bryant, 41, and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna died in a helicopter accident. Considered one of the best basketball players of all time, the athlete was a five-time champion of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and had won two Olympic gold medals.
