The police in the United Arab Emirates have tested a flying motorcycle just like the Star Wars hoverbikes. The vehicle, which is made by the Russian company Hoversurf, has been named Scorpion and will be produced in large quantities for Dubai’s police patrol.

According to Hoversurf, Scorpion uses four propellers to keep itself up in the air and can reach the speed of almost 200 km/h. The equipment flies for up to 25 minutes and can carry up to 270 kilos.

This is not the first time that science fiction serves as inspiration for real life. The hoverboard from the movie Back to the Future became very popular with the electric skateboard that makes young people “fly” over wheels.

Comic book heroes have also served as inspiration. For example, in 2012, Kia, the car manufacturer, created a car inspired by Batman. The sedan, Optima SX, is black and has 20-inch wheels with Batman’s logotype. The model was auctioned off to help hunger campaigns in Africa.

Questions – nivel II

– Can you give an example of real life objects that were inspired by comic books?
