Two artificial intelligence systems scored a little higher than humans in a Stanford University reading comprehension test. The machine by Alibaba scored a total of 82.44 and Microsoft’s, 82.65. Humans scored 82.304 points.

For the test, humans and machines read Wikipedia texts on topics ranging from historical events to pop culture. Right after, they answered questions such as which year activist Martin Luther King died and what is needed for combustion to happen.

For some specialists, these results mean that machines are ready to be used in the workplace for activities such as customer service. However, others say it is an exaggeration to think that robots will substitute humans. James Vincent is the technology reporter of the website The Verge. He says that machines cannot think on their own and can only answer mechanical questions.
