A 61-year-old mailman was not able to deliver 24 thousand letters, so he hid all the mail in his home, in the town of Yokohama, Japan. He did this so that nobody would suspect anything. The crime was uncovered by the Japanese police in January of this year, after the town’s mail service noticed that thousands of letters were missing.
The man, whose name was not disclosed, said it was “very complicated” to deliver mail. He decided to hide the letters at his house so he would not seem less competent than his younger colleagues. The mailman was fired. If he is considered guilty because of his behaviour, he will have to pay 20 thousand reais in fines or even go to jail for up to three years.
The local mail service promised to deliver all the letters to their recipients, some of them dated from 2003.
