…WE HAVE CLOSE TO 86 BILLION NEURONS?

…NEURONS ARE THE CELLS THAT MAKE UP THE NERVOUS SYSTEM? The nervous system is like a communication network that controls, for example, organs and muscles. Neurons are in charge of transferring impulses to the brain, which makes the human body function.

…NEURONS HELP US SEE, HEAR, AND SMELL, FOR EXAMPLE? They form connections (or synapses) with each other and send impulses to the brain which affect all our senses.

…THE BRAIN IS THE HUMAN ORGAN THAT USES THE MOST ENERGY? It burns around 320 calories (a measure of energy) per day and is responsible for 20% of the calories we burn while at rest.

…THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF NEURONS? Sensory neurons process information that comes from inside and outside the body; motor neurons help the internal workings of the body; and interneurons transmit information to other neurons.
