Released on September 7th, JBE Books is selling a single volume of One Piece manga [Japanesestyle comics]. The 21,540-page volume is not an official product of the brand. It is called ONEPIECE and was produced by the artist Ilan Manouach, who brought together the digital versions of the manga.

According to the publisher, the work is so big that it cannot be read. Therefore, it is sold as a sculptural object. The goal of the artist is to reflect on the amount of manga content online and the way it is consumed.

“Comics are dual-purpose objects. They have a use value – for readers – and exchange value for collectors,” the publisher said in a press release. “Although these two functions are not operating along a clear-cut divide, they sometimes run opposite each other. ONEPIECE intensifies this duality …as it exists only as an object of pure speculation.”
