The Parker Solar Probe has captured the closest images ever taken of the Sun. The images were taken in December 2024 and released in July of this year by the United States space agency, NASA.

The camera attached to the probe reached a distance of 6.1 million kilometers from the solar surface. This may seem like a long way, but for comparison, if we considered the distance between the Sun and Earth to be 30 cm, the device would have reached a distance of 1.27 cm.

Launched in 2018, the probe is named after astrophysicist Eugene Parker, who theorized about solar winds in 1958, long before they were proven. The images released show in detail these winds, which form a sort of corona of particles ejected from the solar surface.
