The character Mafalda, Argentine cartoonist Quino’s most well-known creation, is getting her own Netflix series. The announcement was made on August 5th during “Hecho en Argentina”, an event held by Netflix to celebrate productions from Argentina. The work will be directed by Juan José Campanella, the winner of one Oscar and two Emmy awards, and will be produced by “Mundoloco CGI” studio.

“We dream that those of us who have dedicated ourselves to her [Mafalda] since the beginning can share her with our children, and even if there are things that are only for adults, we can all laugh out loud as a family”, said Juan about the new animation.

There is no scheduled release date for the series yet. On social media, Netflix said that this will come soon – and shared a picture where Mafalda’s distinctive bow is placed on top of the globe.

Who is Mafalda?

Mafalda is a six-year-old girl who is curious and inquisitive about social, philosophical, and political issues. Created in 1964, the comic strip’s protagonist is a Beatles fan and hates soup. She has a group of friends of the same age and her family and teachers as interlocutors.

With the viewpoint of a clever child, Mafalda is very good at asking questions and drawing conclusions about complicated issues that were present IMDB E WIKIMEDIA COMMONS in Argentine society when the character was created, but which are still current, such as democracy, gender equality, human rights, the environment, and social inequality. Even though it has kids, Mafalda’s comic strips captivate people of all ages.

Joaquín Salvador Lavado, Quino, is deemed one of the most important Joaquín Salvador Lavado, Quino, one of the most important cartoonists in the world and the creator of Mafalda cartoonists in the world. He was the 2014 winner of the “Asturias Prize for Communication and Humanities” which celebrates those who contribute to social welfare through cultural and communication works. Quino passed away in 2020 at the age of 88.
