Cine Holliúdy (created by Cláudio Paiva, Leandro Soares, Bíbi Da Pieve, 2017, Brazil) By Milenna de M. B., age 14, Colégio Ciman, Brasília (Federal District) Cine Holliúdy is a TV series that takes place in 1970. In the story, the mayor of Pitombas, a fictional city in Ceará state, clashes with the filmmaker and owner of Cine Holliúdy, Francisgleydisson.
Cine is the only cultural attraction in the town. Films played in the movie theater draw the entire town. However, because of technological advances, the mayor is able to place a TV in the town square.
Then, people stop going to the cinema, Francisgleydisson loses his income and does everything to keep the cinema afloat.
As someone who likes the series, I think the story is told in a funny way. It shows the culture and everyday life of the region and the challenges that cinema faced when TVs appeared. By watching the series, viewers learn about regional expressions and clothing, how houses were built, the accent.
Anyway, for me, it was a great and fun learning experience. There should be more shows on TV like this.
