Dogs and coyotes are very different animals, even when they live with humans. A puppy found by the police in Dallas, Texas, in the United States, is causing workers at an animal shelter to raise their eyebrows. Is it a dog or a coyote? To resolve this issue, the Dallas Animal Services shelter asked for a DNA test. DNA is a molecule that carries an organism’s genetic information. This could identify the species of the puppy that was named Toast. There was doubt mainly because of the animal’s large ears, which look like those of a coyote, and its darker coat. The story was posted on the institution’s Facebook page on February 23rd.

If Toast is really a puppy, it will be put up for adoption. This cannot be done if it is a coyote, a wild species that should not be domesticated.
