Manchester City won the Premier League — the United Kigndom’s professional soccer league and the country’s main sporting competition – for the fourth consecutive time. On May 19th, the team scored 3-1 against West Ham United in the final game of the 2023/24 season at the Etihad Stadium.
With this win, Manchester City now holds eight victories in the championship, second only to Manchester United which has 13 titles. In the English championship’s general ranking, which takes tournaments prior to the Premier League into consideration, the team has 10 victories and is behind Arsenal (13 titles), Liverpool (19 titles), and Manchester United (20 titles). In an interview with Sky Sports, Manchester City’s coach Pep Guardiola said that both Liverpool and Arsenal helped the club move up to another level.“Before it was Liverpool that pushed us to our limits. Now it has been [Arsenal] in these last two seasons, especially this one,” he stated.
The league was founded in 1992 and became the main English soccer championship. Between 1888 and 92, the sport’s most important tournament was the Football League. That is why there are two rankings in England: the English championship (which includes both leagues) and the Premier one.
