Étienne Klein, a scientist who heads the research department of the French Atomic Energy Commission, posted an image of the star closest to the Sun on his official Twitter account. The photo went viral, and was supposedly taken by NASA’s (the US space agency) James Webb telescope. However, the object in the photo posted on July 31st was actually a slice of salami.
According to Klein, he posted the image, which got more than 20,000 likes, as a joke. The joke was to show that content verification on social media is very weak. “In light of some comments, I feel obliged to clarify that this tweet […] was a form of entertainment. Let’s learn to distrust both the arguments of authorities and the spontaneous eloquence of certain images…”, he wrote.
1) What, in fact, was the object shared by Étienne Klein?
a) A slice of bologna
b) A piece of ham
c) A meatball
d) A slice of salami
2) What did you think of the scientist’s idea about his post?
