Got their name after World War II?

Their success is recent, but the name reborn baby refers to the dolls that were used during the war to bring hope to children. Old toys were restored, reinvented and, thus, “reborn”. In the 1990s, the search for this hyper-realism was understood as art and, today, the word is used to describe the artisanal process used to make the dolls.

Become children?

Don’t worry, it’s not quite like that… After the reborn baby craze, the market expanded and now there are reborn children. These super-realistic dolls attract “mothers” not only because they are slightly larger in size compared to babies, but also because they can be combed.

Can cost up to 15 thousand reais?

Conventional dolls are sold for between R$350 and R$2,000. But like any growing market, more expensive models cater to a public that is even more interested in realism and exclusivity. The eyes come from Japan, the hair is added strand by strand, the veins are drawn with fine brushes, and high-quality paints as well as varnish make the price of a single doll reach R$15,000.

As quiet as they may be, can be a lot of work?

Despite the physical differences between babies, what they all have in common is that they are dolls, that is, they do not cry, sleep, or wake up, but they can pee. This is because there are already models that “do their business”. These are more expensive and waterproof dolls, so they can take a bath, “feed” and even “pee”.
