There are over 350 species?

These birds vary in size, color, and habits. As pets, the most common are the mangrove parrot and the blue-fronted parrot.

They mate for life?

They show affection in special ways: they clean each other’s feathers, touch beaks, and feed each other. Also, they live in flocks, forming a big family.

They can imitate sounds and words?

Their vocal structure, called a syrinx, allows them to reproduce sounds from other species and human speech. However, they don’t form complete sentences; they only reproduce learned sounds to ask for affection or food, for example.

They are extremely intelligent?

A Harvard University study revealed that the intelligence quotient (IQ) of the African Grey parrot, for example, is equivalent to that of a 5-year-old child. The bird can use tools and understand concepts such as cause and effect.

They can live a long time?

Life expectancy varies depending on the species, but generally, parrots live a long time. The blue-fronted parrot, for example, can live up to 60 years.
