The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza (O Primeiro Gato no Espaço e a Pizza (Quase) Impossível ) Mac Barnett and Shawn Harris – Ed. Baião.
By Guilherme M. R. F., 10 (São Paulo, SP)
This is a comic book recommended by Dav Pilkey, author of Captain Underpants and The Dog Man. The book is very funny because it has a cat wearing a space suit, a robot that cuts toenails and the Lunar Queen. The mission of the three is to save the moon from the Rat King, from another galaxy.
Short Socks (Meia Curta) Andreza Félix and Santiago Régis – Ed. Mazza
By Isabel F. G. and Vitória G. A. F., by 4ºB from Escola Carandá (São Paulo, SP)
Andreza Félix is also the author of the work Taraxacum, and the book was illustrated by Santiago Régis. The main character is a girl who doesn’t like short socks. In the book, you follow a day in the life of this girl, who goes to ballet and is almost hit by an avocado that falls from a tree. Luckily, she is wearing short socks and must bend down to fix them. We found the book to be uninspiring, as there is no impactful conflict, which may not spark much interest in the reader. The book is recommended for children aged 4 and 5.
Rain School (Escola de Chuva) James Rumford – Ed. Brinque-Book
by Raquel I., Oto B. and Laura P., 4th grade BT at Escola Carandá (São Paulo, SP)
The book is about a boy named Tomás. The class’s first lesson is to build a school to learn new things. Tomás and his friends go to the new school and meet the teacher. We liked this book because the illustrations and the characters’ lines are incredible and unmissable! The illustrations look like they were made with crayons and watercolors. All the children have different hair and clothes. And the most incredible thing is that it takes place in Chad, on the African continent!
