Billionaire Gina Rinehart, considered Australia’s richest woman, asked the country’s National Gallery to remove a portrait of her from the exhibition because it makes her look “very ugly”. According to a May 15th article in the British newspaper The Guardian, the work was painted by artist Vincent Namatjira, who also painted famous figures including Queen Elizabeth II and Jimi Hendrix. The National Gallery of Australia turned down the request on the grounds that they “present works of art to the Australian public to inspire people to explore, experience, and learn about art.”
