In a race held in the city of Sarno, Italy on September 18th, 18-yearold Brazilian Matheus Morgatto became the world kart champion in the OK class, the main category of the modality.

Finnish Tuuka TaponenIn, who won the competition in 2021, came in second.

This was Brazil’s fourth win in world kart. Before Matheus, Guga Ribas in 1986, Gastão Fráguas in 1995, and Ruben Carrapatoso in 1998, had been champions. This title in 2022 title breaks a 24-year hiatus for kart victories by Brazilians.

“I want to thank everyone who supported me. I have always dreamed of this and now I managed to achieve it. I am really happy. I was fast all week and, in the fi nal, I repeated my performance”, said Matheus, who competes for the Spanish team DPK Racing, after the victory. Who is Matheus Morgatto? Matheus started his kart journey in 2011 when he was eight. It did not take long for him to gain his first important victories in the Campeonato Paulista and the Super Kart Brasil. Over his international career, he has won tournaments such as the Florida Winter Tour, in the United States, and the PanAmerican Kart Championship in Colombia, both in 2018.
