On February 10th, Boom Supersonic released an image captured by US space agency NASA of one of the company’s supersonic jets, the XB-1, breaking the sound barrier, that is, moving faster than sound. The photo was taken by a team on the ground using a technique that can capture images imperceptible to the naked eye. The XB-1 was the first civilian plane to achieve this. Until now, only government-funded aircrafts had been able to break the sound barrier.
“The image makes the invisible visible – the first American made civil supersonic jet breaking the sound barrier. Thanks to [XB-1 pilot] Geppetto’s exceptional flight and our partnership with NASA, we were able to capture this iconic image,” said Blake Scholl, Founder and CEO of Boom Supersonic.
