Iguanas Freeze in the Cold

It did not snow in Florida, in the United States, for 30 years. The unexpected cold weather made some iguanas freeze and fall hard on the ground. Even so, the iguanas did not die. This happened because when it is very cold, iguanas’ bodies slow down. They can still breathe, but they stop moving. Because they have cold blood, iguanas need outside heat (from the sun or a hot rock) to control their bodies’ temperature. Scientists say that after iguanas get warm, they go back to moving normally.

Whale Saves Diver from Shark

Nan Hauser is a biologist. She swam for 10 minutes with a humpback whale that weighed 25 tonnes. The whale kept Nan close by even though the diver tried to distance herself. This happened near the Cook Islands in the Pacífic Ocean. After Nan got out of the water, she saw a tiger shark swimming near them and realized that the whale was trying to protect Nan from it. Tiger sharks are one of the most aggressive sharks.
