On August 6th, the Brazilian Skateboarding Confederation (CBSK) and Player1 Gaming Group (P1GG, a company in eSports) started the registration process to choose two Brazilian athletes for the first eSports competition at the World Skate Games. The World Skate Games are a skateboarding championship that will take place in Rome (Italy between September 6 and 22, 2024.

For the first time, this year’s circuit will include a competition with the Skater XL skateboard simulator available for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. The platform, owned by Easy Day Studios, will simulate the skate rinks at Monte Oppio, the site of the competition in Rome.

CBSK and Gaming Group entries were open until August 9th for male and female athletes. People who registered had to send a video of up to a one and a half minutes long, showing their maneuvers in the Skater XL simulator. The submissions were evaluated by a special jury, considering criteria like execution, creativity, and style. After, a live digital conference was held to verify the finalists’ skills. 

André Hilton Correia de Araújo Filho, from Caruaru (PE) and Maria Luiza dos Santos de Sousa from Bonsucesso (RJ) were selected. The two athletes will be awarded with paid travel and accommodation to participate in the tournament. 

The eSports debut at the World Skate Games Italy 2024 has come soon after the eSports Olympic Games, scheduled for 2025, were approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Olympics will include physical sports played on virtual platforms, sports simulators, and other modalities that follow Olympic principles.
