On May 5th, bakers in Paris, France, prepared a 140.53 meterlong baguette in an attempt to get into the Guinness World Records, the offi cial book of records, with the largest baguette in the world. The title, until then, belonged to Italian bakers who had produced a 132.6 meter-long baguette. The giant French baguette was made during an event organized by the French Confederation of Bakers and Confectioners and was distributed to homeless people. A Guinness judge accompanied the episode and made the French record official.

A news report broadcast by the American TV news channel NBC News on May 1st showed a three-year-old girl from North Carolina, in the United States, complaining to her parents of being afraid of a supposed monster in the closet. After a carpenter inspected it, they discovered that the noises were, in fact, a hive with over 50 thousand bees inside the bedroom wall. The girl’s mother, Ashley Class, stated that 20 thousand dollars were spent (around 100 thousand reais at the current exchange rate) to get the bees out safely.

On May 5th, Chinese media published reports showing that several tourists were stuck in a traffi c jam of climbers on Yandang Mountain, which is 1,150 meters high and located in the Eastern part of the country. Due to visitor overcrowding, the company in charge of the site, Wenzhou Dingcheng Sports Development, reported that some customers had been stuck on the climbing trail. The company stated that everyone’s safety had been ensured during the mishap, and that a rescue service was made available for a fee.
